There's plenty to do for the first time visitor to Lanzarote and like most islands you will find some more resorts which are more suitable for you than others. Puerto del Carmen is the busy, biggest and most popular resort with the most nightlife. Costa Teguise follows in size and popularity with Playa Blanca being the quiet retreat in the South.

The Timanfaya national park - Park up and have a volcanic experience from a coach. The most popular tourist attraction on the island of Lanzarote. As you enter the park the whole area looks like a lunar landscape made up of solidified lava from volcanic eruptions.
Camel rides	On the way through the park stop off at the first car park and hop onto one of the camel rides. When the thing stands up or lies down hold on tight or you're sue to endup looking like an asshat in the dirt. Once your done there and your finished cleaning off the camel spit head on up the road where you will eventually arrive at a gatehouse.	Timanfaya volcano

If you want to continue onto the car park at the top you will need to buy a ticket which will entitle you to parking and a tour bus ride around the Timanfaya area. I think its well worth it, examples of what you may see are shown in the pictures below.

The greatest recorded eruptions occurred between 1730 and 1736. The volcanic activity continues as the surface temperature in the core ranges from 100 to 600 °C at the depth of 13 metres (43 ft), which is demonstrated by pouring water into the ground, resulting in a geyser of steam which is an attraction for tourists.

Go early at least by 11am to avoid a lengthy wait to get into the car park. While your there be sure to watch the demonstrations about how hot it is no more than 6 feet under the surface!
